There is no other way to put it, kids are extremely expensive to say the least. Entertaining children can get out of hand financially very quickly if you aren’t careful. With prices of entertainment skyrocketing around the country, taking the kids for a movie can turn into quite a costly venture. These are a couple of frugal tips and things you can do to keep the kids entertained without having a large impact on your wallet.
Not all parents will have the luxury of having a bookworm as a child. History books and documentaries are a great way to educate your child while also entertaining them. Personally, growing up as a WWII history buff, I could not get enough about reading about the different battles, political moves, and speeches that were given. Recently, on a trip to the library with my child, I read about the US comfort women that were forced into prostitution in Korea. There will always be something to learn at the library and activities for children and adults throughout the day.
Many state parks are free of admission and give the kids a chance to learn something about the place that you live. Even for the parks that are paid for admission, there are days that they are free to enter.
This will give you a chance to have a nice family picnic rather than going to something costly like a theme park and having a $15 hotdog.
If you are lucky enough to live near a beach, the beach is a great place to save some money and have fun with your family. If you bring your lunch to the beach then you will only have to pay for parking at most. Most beaches do not have entrance fees and most beach towns at least have one free beach for the public.
Often times there are theaters that are run by the community with amateur actors. This could also be something that you could get your child involved in if they are interested in that. Most of these theaters are free and genuinely entertaining.
Anything On Groupon
Groupon is a great way to save money and still be able to do whatever you would like. Many of the discounts for activities approach 50% off which can make otherwise expensive ventures very affordable. Groupon is also a good place to look for idea of what to do with your family as they have activities to cover every interest.
Sporting events such as high school football or something of that nature is a great way to keep your children entertained. These events generally have little to no entrance fee or parking fee and is a great way to stay engaged in your community. The concession stands are also affordable as many of the workers are school officials and volunteers. Depending on what sport you want to watch, professional sports are an option if you get a bulk deal, the bulk deal can be something that combines tickets and sodas.
As you can see, you don’t always have to break the bank to keep your children entertained. Sometimes spending money is necessary, just make sure that you have tapped out the more affordable resources before you resort to spending copious amount of money.
